How to get
roofing leads.

Get roofing leads from the streets you have already roofed, from the days after a storm, and from Google, where a lead costs a median $228.15. Work them in that order. A neighbor costs the least, and a paid lead has to pay for itself on one roof.

Past jobs first

Every finished roof has neighbors who watched the tear-off. Within a week of the crew leaving, put a note on the 10 to 20 houses around the job that names the street and the work you did.

Leave a yard sign with your license number while the job runs. Ask for a Google review the day the dumpster goes, while the homeowner is still looking up at a new roof.

Your old estimates are worth a call too. A roof that was quoted three years ago has not gotten any younger.

After the storm

Roofing demand follows the weather. Watch the National Weather Service storm reports for hail and wind in your service area, and have your message ready before it hits.

Reach your past customers in that zip code first, with an offer to inspect the roof and photograph any damage. They already know you, and you already know the roof.

At the door

Door knocking after hail works, and it comes with a federal rule. The FTC’s Cooling-Off Rule covers sales of $25 or more made at the buyer’s home, and gives the buyer until midnight of the third business day to cancel.

It does not cover repairs the homeowner asked you to come out for, or sales needed to meet an emergency. A roof you sold by knocking is the case it was written for, so carry the cancellation paperwork and check whether your state or town adds its own storm repair or solicitor rules.

On Google

Roofing & Gutters is the most expensive category in LocaliQ’s 16 home services rows: a median $228.15 a lead, at $10.70 a click and a 3.70% conversion rate. If you book 1 lead in 5, that is $1,140.75 of ad spend for each roof.

Those are search ad numbers, not what any one roofer will pay. Run them against your own margin before you spend, and send every click to a page about that roofing job in that town.

Roofers are on Google’s list for Local Services Ads, where you pay for leads rather than clicks. Expect screening first: a background check for every owner and anyone who serves customers, a certificate of insurance and a license check.

Plan the seasons

The Bureau of Labor Statistics notes that roofing work may be limited in northern states in winter, and that roofers may work overtime in the busy summer months. Your lead plan should run ahead of that curve.

Fill the summer book in spring. Use the slow months for past customer calls, reviews and a website that shows this year’s roofs, so you are not paying the top ad price when the crews are already full.

Count signed roofs

Keep one sheet: where each lead came from, what it cost, whether you reached them, and whether they signed. Do it weekly. In a month you will know which source signs roofs and which one only rings the phone.

Download it.

Your questions

What is the cheapest way to get roofing leads?

The homes around a job you just finished, and past customers after a storm. Neither needs ad spend. Both need someone to do the walking and the calling.

Are bought roofing leads worth it?

Run the math on your own numbers. Take what you pay per lead, divide by how many you book, and compare that with your gross profit on one roof.
