Metal and glass

An estimator with a bid date. A property manager with a broken door. One phone, mid-install. We run the path from that first call to the next job.

Two buyers

Commercial work comes through a GC, a spec and a bid date. Residential and repair work comes from someone on Google, today. One generic page sells to neither.

The bid list

An estimator looks you up before adding you. Division 08 or Division 05 scope, bonding, insurance, finished jobs. If that page is missing, so are you.

Repair calls

A fogged IGU. A shattered tempered door. A bent rail. These calls go to whoever picks up, and your crew is on a lift.

Paper load

Shop drawings, submittals, change orders, retainage. The office is buried in jobs already won, so nobody is selling the next one.

One RFQ

The same storefront RFQ at Corvane Glass & Metal, a sample shop, run twice: first a PDF in a full inbox, then a job that takes the plan set, gets the scope answered and follows up the quote. The takeoff stays the estimator’s, in Bluebeam Revu.

Example job record for Corvane Glass & Metal, a sample shop: a storefront RFQ from a general contractor with a 72 hour bid clock. In a shared inbox, the first reply takes 2 days, the quote goes out 4 hours after the bid date, nobody follows up and no answer comes back. On the job record, the plan set comes in through the site form, a first reply goes out in 4 minutes and the bid passes straight to the estimator. Three scope questions come back with site photos. The estimator does the takeoff in Bluebeam Revu and attaches the marked PDF, 11 openings, and sends a quote of $23,510 with 46 hours left. Two follow-ups go out and stop when the contractor awards the job. A hand-off note goes to the shop, production stays in JobBOSS², and a review request follows punch.

Your questions

What is the difference between storefront and curtain wall?

Storefront is a single span between head and sill, best kept to the second floor and below, and it weeps at the sill. Curtain wall runs past the floors on longer spans and weeps each lite. Different buyers search for each, so each gets its own page.

How do you market a metal fabrication business?

Pick the markets your shop suits, then make it easy for those buyers to check you: a capabilities page, certifications, project photos and an RFQ form that takes drawings. Email past customers and old quotes before you buy ads.

How to Market a Metal Fabrication Business

Is certified payroll the same as prevailing wage?

No, but they travel together. Prevailing wage is the pay rate a public job requires, and certified payroll is the weekly report that proves you paid it, often on the WH-347. If you run it, say so on your prequal page.
