How much does a
website cost?

A small business website costs $540 to $1,044 over three years on a website builder you run yourself, and $6,500 to $15,000 from an agency before upkeep. The build is the smaller part of the bill. Who keeps the site working decides what you really pay.

Three ways to buy

A website builder is the cheapest way to own something that works. Squarespace charges $19 a month for Basic and $29 for Core, billed yearly. Webflow charges $15 a month for its Basic site plan, billed yearly, with 300 static pages and no CMS.

A freelancer sits in the middle. The Bureau of Labor Statistics puts median pay for web developers and digital designers at $47.85 an hour, so a 40-hour build is about $1,914 in wages before any overhead. Treat that as a floor to think with, not a quote. A custom site offered for much less is a template, or someone working under the going rate.

An agency costs the most up front. WebFX says web design runs $1,000 to $30,000 or more on average, and puts basic design for a small business at $6,500 to $15,000.

What moves the price

Page count is the first lever. WebFX lists website copywriting at $60 to $300 a page, so 12 pages of service and area copy run $720 to $3,600 if someone else writes them.

The second lever is anything that connects to another system. Booking, payments and a customer list each add build time, and each is one more thing that can break after launch.

The third is who keeps it up. A builder plan bundles the hosting. A custom website needs a host, updates and someone to call when a form stops sending.

The domain

Your domain is a separate, small line. Porkbun lists a .com at $11.81 a year and says the price stays the same on renewal, so three years is $35.43. Squarespace includes the first year of a domain on annual plans.

Register it in your own name, whichever builder you pick. It is the one part of a website that follows you when you leave.

Your own hours

The table below leaves out the biggest cost of a builder, which is you. Forty hours of your own time at what your time bills for is a real line. If an hour of your work bills at $100, a weekend of website work costs more than three years of Webflow.

A builder still wins when your phone already rings and you only need somewhere to send people. It loses when you keep starting it and never finish.

What we charge

We publish our prices. We build your website from your answers in 48 hours and walk you through it on a call. It stays a free sample until you pick a plan, from $1,500 a month. You have 7 days. If you don’t, it comes down and you owe nothing.

That plan is not a website price. It also answers leads, follows up and reports every month, so compare it with what you would pay for those, not with a builder.

Your questions

How much does a website cost per month?

On the builder plans above, $15 to $29 a month billed yearly, plus about $1 a month for a .com. A custom build has no plan fee, so its monthly cost is whatever hosting and upkeep you pay for.

Why do website quotes vary so much?

They price different jobs. One quote is a template with your logo on it, and another includes copy, photos, booking and years of upkeep. Ask what is in the price, who writes the pages and what happens after launch.

Can I get a website for free?

Builders have free plans on their own subdomains, such as Webflow’s webflow.io address. Ours is a free sample built for you. It stays a free sample until you pick a plan, from $1,500 a month. You have 7 days. If you don’t, it comes down and you owe nothing.
